FC Holyport girls 2-2 Penn and Tyler's green
This week's match saw the team play against Penn and Tyler's green for a third time this season . Last time out they were a much improved side from what the side played the first time.
Straight from the kick off it was clear to see that Penn and Tyler's were going to play very direct and look to play the ball up to their star striker as often as possible. The girls seemed to be coping fairly well with this direct approach and started to create a handful of half chances themselves .
The game continued to be played end to end until Isabella sent a cross in from the right hand side towards the far post . This somehow managed to elude the goalkeepers grasp and ended up in the back of the net.
Unfortunately the lead was short lived. A bit of uncertainty from a corner saw the ball flicked on by a Holyport player and beat the keeper at the near post .
After the break Holyport took the lead again. Liberty taking on a number of players and finishing in style .
Once again this was short lived as the away team counter attacked and took full advantage of an uncertain defence. The game was now set up for a nail biting final 10 minutes .
Despite plenty of late pressure on the Holyport defence, they held firm and Caitlin pulled off some impressive saves .
In the end a point a piece was probably a fair result as both teams put a lot of effort into the game .
Player of the match went to Caitlin for an impressive performance that kept the team in the game at times.
FC Holyport Hornets 4-5 Thame Colts
Sunday saw FC Holyport host Thame Colts. They were starting this match with nearly a full squad, which was a vast improvement on last week's turnout.
Holyport started uncharacteristically fast and very much on the front foot. The home side were running riot and Thame could not cope with their precise passing and dynamic attacks .
All this domination resulted in first half goals for Herbie , Harley and Liberty. The only negative being the solitary goal Thame managed to sneak just before the break .
At half time the team were instructed to not get complacent and think the game was already won .
Unfortunately this appeared to be exactly what they were thinking and a 15 minute onslaught saw them concede five fairly sloppy goals .
By the time Holyport had pulled themselves together there was only a matter of minutes left and Harley managed to grab his second goal of the day . The ball fell to him on the edge of the box and he placed it perfectly into the top right corner for what was undoubtedly the goal of the week .
The home side pressed forward looking for the equaliser, but unfortunately they ran out of time .
Player of the match went to Jack, for a positive performance.
