Alan Paris bringing several new players to Burnham FC

NEW Burnham boss Alan Paris says he’s working round-the-clock to bring more players into the club as he bids to revitalise their season.

The former Peterborough United player recorded his first win as manager at the weekend as the Blues ran out 3-2 winners at Abingdon United.

But they failed to make it back-to-back victories on Tuesday, with visitors Windsor scoring two second-half goals to clinch maximum points at The Gore.

Paris told the Advertiser that his main challenge over the coming weeks will be getting a settled side out for each game.

He said: “Saturday was the first time that I was able to get some of my own players in and get a result.

“It’s very hard to get a settled team but I’m trying my best and I’m on my phone all the time.”

The Blues boss has had to delve into his contacts book to bring in new faces to the club.

Additions include former Harrow Borough players Ashley Cain and Mark McLeod as well Paris’ son, 21-year-old centre back Luke.

The new-look side acquitted themselves well against the Royalists on Tuesday but the experience of former Premier League striker Barry Hayles proved to be the difference between the teams.

Hayles, now 45, helped force a breakthrough in the 66th minute when he used his body to draw a foul from rookie left-back Jack Poole in the penalty area.

Veteran forward Kieran Knight duly converted his spot-kick with youngster Haydon Clack wrapping up the points nine minutes later.

Paris added: “To be fair the boys stuck at their task and we defended quite well even though they had a lot of possession.

“Our goalkeeper (Samuel Bunting) saved us a couple of times, but they didn’t really cut us open too often.

“In the final third we just didn’t have that quality ball and we didn’t have enough width.”

Next up for Burnham is an away trip to Oxford City Nomads on Tuesday.
