A national arts and crafts retailer has confirmed that its Maidenhead store is now closed, ‘as a result of a restructuring within the business’.
The Hobbycraft store at Stafferton Way Retail Park closed its doors on Thursday, September 18.
The store first opened in April 2023 and sold an array of arts and crafts products, including homecraft and knitting items.
Hobbycraft was acquired from Bridgepoint last year by retail and consumer investment boutique Modella Capital, who has been undertaking on a restructuring programme of the business.
Earlier this year, Hobbycraft stated that it would be closing a number of stores as part of the restructuring programme, but Maidenhead had not been on the list at the time.
Following last week’s closure, Hobbycraft’s CEO Alex Willson has said the company are ‘incredibly grateful’ to the ‘hardworking and dedicated colleagues at the Maidenhead store’.
Mr Willson said: “We can confirm that as a result of a restructuring within the business, Hobbycraft’s Maidenhead store has now closed.
“We are incredibly grateful to our hardworking and dedicated colleagues at the Maidenhead store.
“Individual consultations have taken place with all colleagues to explore possible alternatives to redundancy, as we currently have a number of vacancies at other stores.
“While it’s always tough to say goodbye to some of our stores – and this is always a last resort – we believe these changes will set us up for an even brighter future.”
Mr Willson said the company is investing into its online business, looking at new ways to reach customers, such as through Hobbycraft TV.
He explained that the retailer remains ‘committed to inspiring creativity across the UK’.
Mr Willson added: “For many, our stores are more than just places to buy supplies – they’re hubs of ideas and inspiration.
“Making these changes now is a necessary step to ensure we can keep our doors open to hobbyists and crafters up and down the country for years to come.
“For customers of Hobbycraft Maidenhead, your nearest store is now Hobbycraft High Wycombe.
"You can also shop online at www.hobbycraft.co.uk.”
