Maidenhead United Women's players after Sunday’s convincing win at Selsey

--

Selsey 0, Maidenhead United Women 8

Maidenhead United Women had 30 attempts on goals and scored with eight of them as they swatted aside bottom of the table Selsey away from home on Sunday.

Ed Jackson-Norris’s side have been in mixed form of late and needed a win in the FA Women’s National League One South West, having not tasted success in the league since their 5-0 victory over Selsey at home in September.

This performance was even more convincing, aided undoubtedly by the presence of Freya Meadows-Tuson, who has signed for the Magpies after being released by Reading FC Women last week.

She was at the heart of most of the Magpies good play as they eased to an 8-0 win, their largest in the league this season, and second only to their 9-0 cup win over Selsey in October.

Selsey haven’t won or drawn a match this season and the Magpies were confident they wouldn’t become their first victims as they went in search of goals from the first whistle.

Megan Halfacree, Macey Nikiah-Walters (two), Simone O’Brien, Aleasha Lunn (two), Izzy Stockton and an own goal made sure of a comfortable afternoon’s work for the Magpies who remain above ninth placed Portishead on goal difference. They’re also just three points behind seventh placed Keynsham Town.

Izzy Stockton and Natasha Rasmussen spoke with Maidenhead United’s Neil Maskell after the game at Selsey.

“So, basically, the ball finally rebounded to me after 90 minutes,” said Izzy. “I went into the box and saw the girls and thought, maybe I can pull off a bit of magic here. So, I went past three of the girls and slotted into the bottom right-hand corner with my left foot.”

Natasha added: “Yes, it was a really good performance. Everyone went into the game thinking about how many shots we could get off and I think, the coaches were saying, we had 30 shots and got eight goals so that’s pretty good statistics.”

Next up for the Magpies is their FA Women’s National League Plate quarter final against Cambridge United at York Road on Sunday, January 28, 2pm kick-off.
