Burnham's hopes of reaching the latter stages of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup were ended by home defeat to Reading's u21s side at the 1878 Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Ben Murray's side had been hoping to cause one of the upsets of the round when they took on the Royals' young squad, but despite an impressive display, they went down to a 2-0 defeat.
After a goalless first half, Reading found the back of the net a little over 15 minutes into the restart as Tyler Sackey switched the ball out to Jeremiah Okine-Peters on the far side and he drilled it back over to Joe Barough, who made no mistake from close range.
The second goal came with 10 minutes left of normal time to play as Sam Paul fed the ball to substitute Jahmari Clarke from the right side of the pitch and the forward finished with the outside of his foot.
It is yet to be announced who Reading’s u21s will be playing in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup semi-final.
Burnham return to league action this weekend as they face Edgware & Kingsbury in the Combined Counties Premier Division North.
The last time the Blues encountered this opposition was on Saturday, January 6 at Silver Jubilee Park.
And thanks to goals from Anas Igozouln and Jack Penton, Burnham triumphed 2-1.
With 11 wins, five draws, and seven defeats, Ben Murray’s men sit a point outside of the play-offs, in sixth place.
Edgware & Kingsbury, who most recently defeated Broadfields United 3-2 on home soil, occupy 16th with seven wins, five draws, and 15 losses.
