Maidenhead United saw Tuesday’s game with Hartlepool United postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but they’ll have celebrated the results of the matches that did take place last night, with the Magpies remaining four points clear of the bottom four.

On an evening when Alan Devonshire’s side could have been dragged closer to the drop zone, instead they maintained their position of 16th, with results by and large going their way.

Devonshire and his players would have hoped to have played on Tuesday and built on their impressive 4-2 win over Dorking Wanderers. But, when you can’t play, you have to hope you get the rub of the green with results elsewhere and on this occasion, that’s what happened.

Dorking were beaten 2-0 at Southend United and dropped third from bottom, second bottom York City were hammered 6-1 away by Altrincham, improving Woking’s recent good run was ended by Rochdale (2-1) and 18th placed Boreham Wood lost 2-0 at play-off challengers Solihull Moors.

Kidderminster Harriers did manage a 1-1 draw with AFC Fylde and move above Dorking to 21st place, but they remain four points and places behind the Magpies.

Maidenhead have now played the same number of matches or fewer than seven of the eight teams below them in the table.

They have eight matches remaining and travel to 13th placed Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday. The Daggers sit just a point above them in a tightly congested National League table. There are still only seven points between second bottom York City and 12th placed Hartlepool United.
