Burnham will look to reclaim their place at the summit this weekend when they get back to Combined Counties Premier Division North action at home to Abingdon United (3pm kick-off).
Mo and Omz Bakali’s side saw themselves knocked off their perch by Broadfields United at the weekend, while the Blues were in FA Cup qualifying action against Jersey Bulls at the 1878 Stadium.
Having not played a league match since their Bank Holiday Monday cruise against Milton United, a game the Blues won 3-0 to maintain their perfect start in all competitions, Bakalis’ side have been bumped down to second in the table going into this weekend’s fixtures. In their place at Broadfields United, who got the better of Holyport 2-0 on Saturday with second half goals from David Levy (53') and Dickson Owusu (64').
The result moved Broadfields level with Burnham on 15 points; however, they have played three more games than the Blues so far.
Perhaps more of a threat to Burnham’s place at the top are Premier Division North new boys Windsor & Eton FC, who earned their fourth league win of the season on Saturday with a 1-0 success over North Leigh at Stag Meadow.
Nick Thumwood (74') grabbed the game’s only goal midway through the second half and the result lifted Windsor to third in the table, two points behind Burnham and Broadfields. Matty Angell’s side have though played just a game more than Burnham.
Angell’s side can potentially depose Broadfields United at the top as they visit them this Saturday, however, Burnham might well have a say in who’s sitting top come 5pm on Saturday afternoon.
Holyport are sat down in 13th place with only six points after having had a mixed start to their campaign under new management duo Lee Ovens and Dan Rapley.
There have been successes, such as victories over Amersham Town and Edgware and Kingsbury, but they’ve also lost six times in all competitions.
They’ve also failed to score in their last three matches, going down to a 2-0 defeat to Everett Rovers in the FA Vase first qualifying round, a 3-0 defeat to Ashford Town (Mddx) at home in the league before Saturday’s 2-0 reverse at Broadfields.
They’ll hope to get back to winning ways at Harefield United on Saturday.
