Champion jockey Sean Bowen had an extra reason to be delighted with his win on Roaring Conquest at Windsor on Sunday, as he has now ridden a winner at all the British jumps tracks writes Dave Wright.
"I thought I'd done them all until they reopened Windsor," he said on Sky Sports Racing.
"It's a tricky course. It's my third ride here, and I still don't know how best to ride it."
Bowen steered Roaring Conquest, trained by Olly Murphy, to victory in the three-mile Stayers' Hurdle Series qualifier.
The 6/4 favourite finished one and a half lengths clear of Super Survivor, trained by Jamie Snowden with Gavin Sheehan aboard.
That denied Snowden a treble as the Lambourn trainer saddled two winners on a day when Fitzdares were the main sponsors.
He won the 'National Hunt' Novices Hurdle with Future Bucks (5/1), ridden by Sheehan, and the two-mile Handicap Hurdle with Hardy Du Seuil (7/2), the mount of Isabelle Ryder.
The four-year-old Future Bucks was making her first start for Snowden since coming over from France, where she raced twice early this year, and underwent wind surgery in September.
Callum Pritchard had a memorable day by riding two winners. His first came with Hold Up La Colmine (4/1), who was 25 lengths clear at the end of the two and a half mile Handicap Chase, and the conditional jockey followed up with School For Scandal, who at 17/2 was the longest-priced winner on the seven-race card.
All in all, Windsor will have been well pleased with their first jumps meeting of the season on a sunny afternoon in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.
The meeting was held on the usual figure-of-eight track, after being switched to a round course for the previous NH meetings.
Former top jockey, Mick Fitzgerald, who was working for At The Races,
commented: "It was lovely to see this track back jumping. I think horses will find their niche here. There will be specialist horses coming back; you need something a little bit different."
