Desborough’s Top Club team who defeated Chawton Park
--
Desborough underlined the depth of their squad and their competitive spirit as they advanced in three separate national competitions this month.
The club are through to the next round of the Denny Cup, the Yetton Trophy and the Top Club championships, but bowed out of the London & Southern Counties Challenge Shield and the Egham Trophy.
In the Denny Cup, Desborough got the better of Atherley thanks to a commanding 94-71 win.
The team’s standout performance was led by Stephen McAlister whose rink won 36-12, laying the groundwork for their overall success.
They’ll face Westlecot in the next round.
In the Yetton Trophy, Desborough squeezed through to the next round despite only winning one of the four rinks against Palmerston.
A decisive 33-9 victory on one of the rinks proved decisive with the team edging the match 78-73 overall. They’ll take on North Wilts in the next round.
Desborough’s strongest performance of the week came in the Top Club competition, where wins on three of the five rinks saw them defeat Chawton Park to set up another encounter with Westlecot in the next round.
However, those successes were tempered by a couple of losses. In the London & Southern Counties Challenge Shield, Desborough were narrowly beaten by county rivals Whiteknights.
While in the Egham Trophy a determined Atherley team claimed revenge for their earlier defeat to Desborough in the Denny Cup. It was once again a thrilling and closely contested match, but Desborough’s opponents had the edge on this occasion.
