Maidenhead Town were presented with the Thames Valley Premier League ‘team of the month award for September’ on Saturday after making an excellent start to the campaign.
The team, who sit top of the Thames Valley Premier League with seven wins from nine matches, won all their matches in September as they began their campaign with six straight victories.
Manager Andy Rumble and captain Mitchell Burley collected their award from Thames Valley Premier League representative Martin Shearn on Saturday, ahead of the club’s 2-1 home win over AFC Winkfield.
The result keeps the club top of the table, two points above closest challengers Westwood Wanderers who won the title last season.
Having won their opening game of the season 5-2 at Holyport Reserves, Town stretched their winning streak to six matches in September with victories at Reading YMCA (3-2) and Westwood Wanderers (4-3), Reading City (6-0), Wargrave (8-2) and Holyport Reserves (4-2) again at home. They scored 25 goals in the month and conceded nine to take themselves to the summit.
They’ve remained there, despite some faltering form in October. They were edged out 3-2 by Newbury Town but responded in thrilling fashion to beat MK United 12-1 to progress in the Berks & Bucks County Cup. Henley Town brought them back down to earth with a 3-1 away win before Rumble’s side got back to winning ways on Saturday with victory over Winkfield. Jack Beech scored both goals in the 71st and 82nd minutes.
They’re set to host Newport Pagnell Town Development in the next round of the Berks & Bucks County Cup this Saturday (November 9) before returning to league action at Reading City u23s on November 23.
The step 7 Thames Valley Premier League includes several local sides including fourth placed Wargrave and 11th placed Holyport Reserves.
