The Princess of Wales joined fellow members of the Royal Family for the historic Garter Day procession at Windsor Castle.

Catherine returned to the traditional ceremony on Monday after missing last year’s event due to her cancer treatment.

She was seen smiling alongside husband Prince William as the grand procession worked its way through the grounds of Windsor Castle before a short service at St George’s Chapel.

The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain having been established by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago.

The Order includes The King, who is Sovereign of the Garter, several members of the Royal Family and up to 24 Companions.

Companions of the Garter are chosen personally by the Sovereign to honour those who have held public office, contributed in a particular way to national life or served the King personally.

Former Labour Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair and music supremo Lord Lloyd-Webber are Garter knights and formed part of the procession.

Crowds lined the procession route to witness one of the most traditional events in the royal calendar.
