A large fire in Poyle Industrial Estate brought a mass presence of firefighters from across multiple counties racing to the scene in the small hours of the morning.
As of 11am today (June 19), firefighters remained at the scene on David Road tackling the blaze.
According to Slough firefighters speaking to the Express, the blaze started at a furniture company and launderette.
Firefighters were called at 1.20am got to the scene at about 2am. They have remained there for nine hours and counting.
As well as eight fire engines and crews, teams deployed two Aerial Ladder Platforms (ALP) – a long extendable ladder with a platform or cage on top, used to tackle especially large or challenging fires from above.
There was also an incident command unit (a special vehicle used as a mobile control room at major incidents) and five officers - senior firefighters mainly dispatched for major incidents where a large amount of coordination is required.
Crews also brought along a water bowser, a large tank often used to provide water where there is no mains supply.
In addition to the Royal Berkshire fire crews from Slough, Windsor, Langley, Caversham Road, Wokingham, Whitley Wood, there were yet more from the London Fire Brigade, and the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire fire and rescue services - making for a large multi-agency response.
The fire was contained and did not spread to nearby buildings and structures. They remain on the scene at this time (11am).
So far, the total level of damage also remains unknown, and the cause of the fire is also unknown at this time.
No people were harmed at the site by the blaze or smoke, as there were no people present there when the fire broke out.
