A conga-inspired charity single will soon be released by Maidenhead’s Rosie’s Rainbow Fund.
Co-penned by the charity’s founder Carolyn Mayling and Dean Amer, it is hoped that the catchy tune will revive the upbeat dance craze once again.
Rehearsals are currently underway at Redroofs School for the Performing Arts in Maidenhead where fifteen young performers are adding vocals to ‘Rosie’s Rainbow Conga.’ Following a trip to London’s Crypt Recording Studio the song will be released this April.
Dean Amer, who also composed the music as well as writing the lyrics, is dad to nine-year-old Rafi, who recently featured in the BBC’s DIY SOS.
Rafi became seriously ill two years ago with E.coli poisoning and according to Dean, music therapy provided by Rosie’s Rainbow Fund’s helped his son through some of his toughest times in hospital
“The nurses were amazed: the moment the music therapist began playing, Rafi’s elevated heart rate would drop to a normal range and our little boy - who hadn’t slept in days - would peacefully close his eyes and sleep,” said Dean.
Proceeds from the sales of the single will go directly towards the charity’s missions – to deliver music therapy for seriously ill children in hospitals and specialist schools; provide family retreats and holidays and offer bereavement support and counselling to families who need it.
Accompanying the single is a new children’s book, Rosie’s Rainbow Conga, written by Carolyn Mayling.
“The book is aimed at young children and I am thrilled to have had it beautifully illustrated by gifted artist Ursula Hurst,” said Carolyn.
“The story is set on a children’s hospital ward and tells the magical tale of how music therapy turns children’s lives from grey to rainbow colour, helping them find joy, happiness and connection through the power of music.”
Carolyn previously penned ‘The Future is Rosie’, a memoir honouring her daughter, Rosie, who sadly passed away aged 11.
Live performances of both the song and the book will air for the first time at the Wycombe Swan on Saturday, June 14, during ‘Rosie’s Rainbow Gala,’ an annual fundraiser celebrating the charity’s vital work.
Schedules allowing, it is hoped the host will be Ross Kemp, actor and documentary film maker and one of the charity’s celebrity patrons. Release dates will appear on the charity's website soon.
