LAST weekend’s freezing temperatures meant only one of the scheduled Thames Valley Premier League’s Premier Division fixtures took place.
Undefeated WARGRAVE, who play on an all-weather pitch at Wokingham’s Cantley Park, extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points after thrashing visitors and third-placed side NEWBURY TOWN 5-1.
Wargrave started well and took an early lead when Callum Brighton curled home from the edge of the box.
Wargrave pushed for a second goal but Newbury keeper Jack North made three good stops.
Newbury equalised from the spot shortly after through Bradley Pagliaroli but Dan Townson restored Wargrave’s lead just before half-time. Wargrave controlled the second half and attacked at every opportunity.
The villagers’ man-of-the-match Brighton added his second before Sam Wild scored a solo effort for 4-1.
Nathan Collins rounded off a good team move to wrap up the scoring.
