The fire service has called on residents to take extra care as the weather warms up to extinguish disposable barbecues properly before disposing of them.
Firefighters from Langley Fire Station were called out to a regular refuse bin that was alright and smoking in Upton Court Park at 5.15pm today (Sunday, May 28).
Fortunately there was not much fuel for the fire inside the bin and firefighters had only to quickly douse it with some water to put it out.
But the service has said that incidents like this pull it away from potentially more serious call-outs.
As such, firefighters are reminding those enjoying a barbecue to make sure the disposal ones are fully extinguished with water before placing them inside bins.
