The former Priestley Bakers building in Slough Trading Estate could be converted back into an industrial building if plans submitted to Slough Borough Council are approved.
The unit in Yarmouth Road was built for industrial use and was once home to a Harley Davidson motorbike showroom.
Most recently it was used as a bakery and coffee shop, with planning permission for its use granted in 2015.
But Priestley Bakers stopped trading in February last year ‘due to increased rent, rates, electric, wage costs, the ever increasing ingredient costs and the need for the owners to put their full focus into the health and recovery of one of the co-founders’.
Segro, which runs the trading estate, now wants planning permission to convert the unit back to industrial use. It says this will allow the unit to come ‘back into economic use at the earliest opportunity’.
Segro says: “The current planning permission for the site was sought specifically to suit the business operations for Priestley Bakers.
“Whilst it is possible that another use could be found for the wholesale bakery and coffee shop use, this is a niche use and therefore the property could remain vacant with no economic benefit for a prolonged period of time.”
