HENLEY 1sts slipped to fifth place in Division 1 of the Oxfordshire League after losing 16-7 to Harwell, a side that included Oxfordshire number one player Ben Hedger who overcame Munro Montanus in straight games.
Captain Harry Carr delivered a commanding 3-0 win at second string to secure Henley’s sole victory of the night. The remaining matches were closely contested, with Andrew Martin losing 11-8 in the fifth.
Henley 2nds continued their unbeaten season with a 16-7 victory at Nuffield 2nds, a result that keeps them top of Division 4. Wins from John Williams, Jim Reay and James Rowson proved decisive. At first string, Dan Andrews was forced to retire with a calf injury while Tim Budden pushed his opponent all the way at second string, narrowly losing 15-13 in the fifth game.
Elsewhere in the division, Henley 3rds are eighth in the table after going down 16-5 to Gladiators. Peter Hopkins was the standout performer with a 3-0 win, while Simon Stone pushed his opponent to five games before narrowly losing
16-14 in the decider.
