VANDALS struck at Henley bowling green over the weekend, gouging out clods of turf on the playing surface. But quick work by town council staff in replacing the divots which were scattered over the green could mean the green will be back in good condition in time for next season. The damage was discovered on Sunday, and council workman led by Mr Bill Grace set to work on the “jigsaw puzzle” of replacing the turf.
There were 700 entries from all over the country at Henley Bird Show on Saturday. Mr John Hooper, who is secretary of the Henley Cage Bird Society, walked off with three first prizes. They were for the best British bird in the show, the best champion and the best soft bill.
