More than 100 people enjoyed an array of activities as they attended a community event in Burnham last month.
Newly-formed formed May’s Chocolate House CIC held its first community event Together in Burnham at Burnham Park Hall.
Burnham Parish Council chairman Marie Hammon kicked off the event with a welcome.
Visitors then enjoyed singing together in a session led by Singing for the Memory, which meets fortnightly in Burnham Library.
There were a host of activities to choose from including painting, flower arranging, jewellery making, festive card making, poetry and children’s crafts.
Guests also had the opportunity to join a Nature Walk or a discussion on mental health or ‘creating a better Burnham’.
Following a lunch provided by Burnham Bites, guests danced together in a session led by Anna from the Mellor Performing Arts School.
The new CIC looks to serve as a community hub to facilitate events and offer inclusive activities and services.
During the ‘creating a better Burnham’ discussion, a number of issues were highlighted, which will now by addressed by the CIC and action will be taken.
Igan Hayati, one of the directors of the CIC, said: “The event was a great success in bringing people from different backgrounds together in a united and friendly environment.
“The purpose was to break down barriers between the various sections of our community and bring us closer together.
“Our task now is how to allow this spirit of unity and fellowship to permeate to the whole of Burnham.
“There were 26 children and young people at the event happily engaged in creative activities together with their parents.
“This has given us the idea of organising more events focussing on the younger generation who are the future of our community.”
The next event, relating to Burnham and the District Heritage Society, will take place at the company’s Burnham High Street base on Tuesday, November 26.
From 11am to 2pm, as part of the Buckinghamshire History Festival, the team will be joined by Callum Walker from the Buckinghamshire Archive who will be in the shop with photos of ‘Old Burnham’ for people to see and share their memories.
