Maidenhead’s Andy Lapthorne reached the semi-finals of the Quad Singles at the US Open last week before bowing out to World Number 2 Sam Schroder of the Netherlands.
Lapthorne made good progress through the knockout rounds before losing in the semis, going down 6-1, 6-0 to Schroder, who was the eventual runner up to World Number 1, Niels Vink.
The Maidenhead player had twice beaten Schroder on the grass courts in Eastbourne in 2024 and 2025 but could not reproduce that form against the second seed at Flushing Meadows.
Lapthorne, the 2014 and 2019 US Open quad singles champion, made it to the final four with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Australian teenager Jin Woodman, having been 3-0 up in both the second and third sets.
Speaking after that match, Lapthorne said: “I felt like the first three games of the second set are the best I’ve played here since 2019.
“Then I had points to go 4-0 up and started to self-sabotage a bit, so I’m a bit disappointed I let that happen, but it’s great to bounce back the way I did and it’s amazing to be in the semis again.”
Andy's doubles challenge alongside the USA's David Wagner ended in the first round this time, too.
Two-time US Open champions together, Lapthorne and Wagner lost out in a deciding championship tie-break to Francisco Cayulef of Chile and Argentina's Gonzalo Lazarte 6-3, 5-7, (12-10).
