Hundreds of boys and girls from teams across the area took part in a Kids First Rugby festival at Slough RFC on Sunday.
Eleven clubs sent teams to play in the u7s-u12s Wynford Phillips Festival while host club Slough fielded several teams across the various age groups.
On a chilly, but thankfully dry day, the games were managed by coaches of the various teams and clubs also mixed teams together to create the best experience for every single player.
Slough u8s enjoyed their first real experience of tournament rugby, showcasing their skills against teams from Basingstoke, Ealing, Farnborough, Hillingdon Abbots, Phoenix, Pinner, and Rams.
Two teams were fielded by the club at u9s level where more valuable match experience and confidence was gained. The tries were also shared around between the two teams with Evan Ansah, Freddie Millard, Hamza Ovais, James Moore, Savanna Bio-genfi, Ruby McCarron, and Omar Abdel Rahman touching down across their matches against Marlow, Ealing. Phoenix, Farnborough, and Windsor.
Powerful runs for Ruby and Savanna saw tries against Windsor Black while great teamwork and support play led to more tries for the team in their games against Marlow Wildcats and Phoenix.
Every member of Slough's u10s squad managed to get on the scoresheet with Leo Inglese scoring twice to help seal a win in their first match against the Rams.
The victories kept on coming with Eshen Panesar, Remmi Contrera-Jimenez and Malachi Makawa scoring for the hosts in their win over Pinner.
Remmi and Malachi were at it again in their game against Ealing, with Shayen Baptiste latching onto a pass from Mason to score the final try.
They also scored four tries in a narrow loss to an agile Windsor side, with Jigar Saini, Remmi, Eshen all touching down before the break and Leo and Arjan Bhogal doing likewise in the second period.
Emotions ran high in their final match as the tired team took on the Ealing Greens. Hasan Mughal scored an amazing solo try and Arjan combining with Malachi to level shortly after half-time. Remmi then scored their final try of the day after another fine run.
Slough u12s also played some good matches after combining with Hilligdon Abbots for the day to ensure their involvement.
Youth chairman, Martin Tilby, said:
“It was a great day of youth rugby played in good spirits with Rugby’s Core Values at the forefront which is what rugby at Slough RFC is all about. A big thank you to our small army of volunteers who made the event happen.”
Slough RFC is looking for more players to strengthen its youth rugby squads. All boys and girls aged seven and above are invited to get in touch and come to the club for a free taster session. No experience is necessary, and all abilities are welcome.
