The mayor of the Royal Borough joined community figures from the area for the launch of a new art and community series.
Cllr Mandy Bray attended the Bardo Lounge in Maidenhead town centre on Wednesday, September 10 for the first session of Art Social.
This is a hand-on series, founded by Maidenhead resident Emma Sweeting, which invites adults to put down their screens and ‘rediscover the calm and connection that comes with making things together’.
Guests at the event also included Royal Borough councillor Gurch Singh, chair and former president of the Maidenhead & District Chamber of Commerce Seema Goyal, Rotarian Mark Loader, Mrinal Madina and PR consultant Emma Kisby.
The two-hour guided art session gave attendees the opportunity to hone their drawing skills and experience ‘the sense of wellbeing that comes from doing so’.
Emma said: “I’m creating relaxed, welcoming spaces where people can switch off, make something with their hands, and feel part of a community.
“You don’t need to be ‘good at art’ - you just need to book a place via www.ArtSocial.co.uk, turn up and have a great time.
“I’d love to see local businesses getting involved - these sessions are a great way to promote health and wellbeing in the workplace, and they make for fantastic team-building experiences too.”
Cllr Brar said: “Community wellbeing matters.
“Art Social gives residents a friendly place to meet, make and unwind - and that’s great for Maidenhead.”
The Art Social autumn programme will take place at the Bardo Louge with themed workshops for beginners.
The workshop programme includes acrylics and watercolours from 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 24, an afternoon hygge class from 2.30pm on Saturday, October 18, textured art from 7.30pm on Wednesday, November 5 and paint your own home from 7.30pm on Wednesday, November 12.
Classes can be booked through www.artsocial.co.uk
