Slough Synchro Skating Club wins host of medals at Alexandra Palance

They travelled to the Skate London Synchro Open at Alexandra Palace with some trepidation after nearly two years of training disruption because of the COVID pandemic.

But Slough's Synchro Skating Club managed to win a host of medals in London, having practiced their routines in the car park of the Slough Ice Arena and on Zoom calls while the ice rink was out of bounds to them.

Their adult team saw off competition from eight other clubs to take gold, while the newly formed 'beginner' team out skated seven other teams to step onto the top of the podium.

The club's intermediate and senior team also won silver medals in their respective categories while their inclusive SPICE team, coached by Annie Hodgson, won gold, and had the audience enthralled with their interpretation of The Greatest Showman.

Team SPICE features young skaters with a variety of additional needs and they're supported by wonderful volunteers. They’re set to perform at this year's Christmas show on December 21 and 22 at the Everyone Active Slough Ice Arena.

The club's teams are coached by Ryan Sowter and Daniella Alessi and Slough were also commended for bringing a 'fresh and powerful' group of teams to the competition. All five of the teams competing achieved personal best scores.

They will also look to be competitive at the British Championships in January and at the Steel City Trophy in March next year.

Slough are also seeking sponsorship to build on the success they've had. They want access to more ice time to give themselves the best possibly opportunity of competing on a national and international level.
