The council has turned down a request for a two-storey building for storage and distribution in Slough – despite the fact that it has already been built.

Developer AA Properties was looking for retrospective planning permission for the building, located on land adjacent to 19 Brook Path.

In 2020, permission was granted for a storage and office building on the site, which has now been constructed.

The land is now classified as residential, whereas previously it was marked for commercial and storage use. The council approved a workshop and garage on this site in the past.

Representatives Raid Architecture offered ‘proof that this building was constructed and used as a car repair shop as it was intended when planning was granted.’

As such, the developer was seeking permission for a change of use for the new building to storage and distribution.

But Slough council said the applicants ‘failed to demonstrate that the site is a suitable location’ for this kind of unit.

“The design of the development... scale and design of the roof, and colour of the proposed fencing are considered to be incongruous additions that would not be sympathetic or in keeping with the character of the area and street scene,” officers wrote.

It would also be ‘an incompatible land use within a predominantly residential area’.

As a result, officers turned down the application.
